The Remedy

I took some words and made them rhyme,
Thrilled I could do it all the time,
But found the syllable I stressed
Did not always sound the best.

To a sage of poems I referred
To learn why what I’d said and heard
Lacked a pleasing ring when quoted.

This is what the wise one noted.

“To make your words both sing and sway,
You may better it this way.

The secret is—the very trick—
Employ pentameter iambic.”
