Morning Call
Who gets up early Saturday
So I can have a visit?
Won’t be offended or annoyed,
I ask myself, “Who is it?”
Now, when I take the risk to see
Who, at the other end
Receives my visit joyfully;
Either it’s a friend
Who overlooks my thoughtless ways
And greets me anyway,
And sets aside her wish for sleep
And helps me start my day.
Or else, I’ve guessed right, and they’re up,
But, even then, it’s kind
To receive someone on Saturday
When you have plans in mind.
For, who gets up early Saturday
After a busy week?
I say, it’s kind to take the time
And with a friend to speak.
